About Wakatobi
Wakatobi Dive Resort isn’t a destination — it’s an institution. A single resort, a privately owned marine park, its own airstrip with charter flights from Bali. The price scales accordingly.
The point of Wakatobi is quality control: the same family has run it since the 1990s, they pay the local population not to fish in the area, and the only way to dive there is through the resort or their liveaboard Pelagian.
When to go
April to December. Closed January–March for maintenance. Best visibility April–May and September–October.
What to know
- No day trips from other towns. You stay at the resort or aboard Pelagian.
- The price (54,900+ SEK) covers everything: flights from Bali, accommodation, 3–4 dives a day, full board, nitrox.
- The house reef is why many people come back. You can dive it on your own during daylight, which few other resorts allow.
- Pelagian liveaboard (separate add-on) takes you 4 nights further out to more remote sites.
Good fit if you
Want minimum logistics, will pay for polish and service, are after top-tier diving without the liveaboard lifestyle, or are traveling with someone who doesn’t dive (the resort has plenty above the surface).
Skip if you
Are on a tight budget — Wakatobi is consistently the priciest option in Indonesia.
Land activities
Limited. The village near the resort (Tolandona) can be visited. Snorkeling, kayaking, yoga, spa at the resort. This is a dive trip — plan on staying on the property.
